Homophobia: I’m not scared OF you, I’m scared FOR you.

1) I did not write the Bible.
2) Yes, I struggle with sin everyday. I don’t think I’m “better” than you.

3) I oppose same sex marriage. NOT because I hate you, but because I love you and want you to know the truth.

4) God hates ALL sin. Some sinful lifestyles lead to DEATH.

I keep seeing and hearing remarks that there is nothing wrong with Homosexuality. Well, if you are a Christian, there is a whole lot wrong with it- Homosexuality is condemned in Scripture. The Apostle Paul, writing by inspiration of the Holy Spirit, declares that those who practice  homosexuality “shall not inherit the kingdom of God” (I Corinthians 6:9; 10). Now Paul does not single out the homosexual as a special offender. He includes fornicators, idolators, adulterers, thieves, covetous persons, drunkards, revilers and extortioners. And then he adds the comment that some of the Christians at Corinth had been delivered from these very practices: “And such were some of you: But ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the spirit of our God” (I Corinthians 6:11). All of the sins mentioned in this passage are condemned by God, but just as there was hope in Christ for the Corinthians, so is there hope for all of us.

Homosexuality is an illicit lust forbidden by God. He said to His people Israel, “Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination” (Leviticus 18:22). “If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them” (Leviticus 20:13). In these passages homosexuality is condemned as a prime example of sin, a sexual perversion. The Christian can neither alter God’s viewpoint nor depart from it.

In the Bible sodomy is a synonym for homosexuality. God spoke plainly on the matter when He said, “There shall be no whore of the daughters of Israel, nor a sodomite of the sons of Israel” (Deuteronomy 23:17). The whore and the sodomite are in the same category. A sodomite was not an inhabitant of Sodom nor a descendant of an inhabitant of Sodom, but a man who had given himself to homosexuality, and the unnatural vice for which Sodom was known.

But there is GOOD NEWS.

Jesus said, “All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will by no means cast out.”

John 6:37

As Easter Sunday (or Resurrection Day) approaches, we celebrate the day that Jesus rose from the dead. He was crucified and took all our sins upon Himself so that we could be forgiven. This came at a great cost.
We ALL struggle with sin. But the answer is to come to Jesus, repent of your sin, and receive Him into your life as Lord and Savior.
Forever is too long to spend in the wrong place.

      1. Not to offend you in any way, but there is no condemnation of Lot’s daughters in the book. I see where it is “justified” but I don’t see where it is condemned.

These are the same daughters that Lot was going to “sacrifice” in-lieu of the Angels, right?

What my question was hoping to elicit was that sometimes the bible gets it wrong.

        1. I’m not offended. Please feel free to speak your mind. The difference between the “Old Testament” and the “New Testament” as far as how God deals with sin can be very complicated and confusing. In the Old Testament, Adultery was punished by stoning. In the New Testament, Jesus tells the men, “He who is without sin cast the first stone.” But then, after the men leave, He says to the woman, “Go and sin no more.” In my opinion, Jesus was NOT saying, “Do whatever you want.” He was saying, “You are forgiven, go and clean up your lifestyle. Forgiveness is now available.

  1. Sorry Mr. Atheist but the Bible NEVER gets it wrong. It is mans way of thinking that gets it wrong! You see OUR WAYS or NOT LIKE GOD’S WAY. His way is higher than our own. But man wants an explanation to everything. God does not OWE US ANY explanation. Sometimes you must accept things as they are. We all have sinned and the Bible teaches this. But it’s the ability to recognize our wrong doing then doing something about those sins. We must humble ourselves and repent.

The issue I see in our society is man(woman) doesn’t know how to humble himself. And this is part of the issue with sin. Man(woman) rejects being told how they should live their lives. Therefore, sin becomes abundant. But if man(woman) were to humble himself before God they would see life through the spirit instead of the world. You see one cannot serve Christ or God if they continue in their sin! When we are reborn into Christ and truly serve him we put on a new self and no longer view things from a worldly perspective.

I hope you find the peace your looking for, but remember, you will grow older, the lifestyle you now experience will cease to exist, this life is temporary and the decisions we make now will affect our spiritual life for eternity. Blessings to you…Robin

  2. You pour a lot of passion into this and I suspect that theologically we agree on more than we disagree on.

A word of clarification – Scripture says “the wages of sin is death”. This means all sin, not just some sin. Whether it be eating forbidden fruit or engaging in sodomy. The verses you use to condemn the sin of same-gender sexual activity are certainly inspired and true. You could, however, just as well cite the words of Jesus calling divorce and remarriage adultery (and the punishment for adultery is death).

The challenge for Christians today is no different than it was in ancient Roman times (where homosexual behavior was also rampant). We need to proclaim the truth by building compassionate relationships with sinners (as Jesus does with the woman caught in adultery), not by dispassionately beating them up with the Bible.

Don’t stop speaking the truth. Just speak the truth in love.

  3. Corinthians: “arsenokoitai” and “malakoi”- enslaved rent-boys and those who use them. Not love between a committed gay couple. But I came here because of your title. Fear for me implies judgment of me.

We call it homophobia because it is an extremely strong emotional reaction, which seems to me more like disgust than fear. Why bother? If you think gay sex is sinful, don’t do it yourself.

      1. Actually, SueAnn, you are not. You are telling me a false interpretation, originally reached through prejudice. Search for arsenokoitai on the web, and you will find some still share your false interpretation, but you will also find the truth, which will set you free.

          1. Read your bible with truthful interpreters. And- of course I am saying homosexuality is not a sin. A predilection is not a sin, it is the thoughts which go with it. Even the most ridiculous conservatives, who imagine that gay lovemaking is always sinful, should agree with that.

  4. I believe the issue this post is trying to make is that Christians should not be supporting homosexuality. I do not believe this post is finger pointing, merely stating how it is wrong. Yes, there are other sins in this world, murder, stealing, lying, adultery, divorce and many more. But right now government is concerned with Gay and Lesbian marriages and the Bible supports this is wrong. Most Christians speak from a place of love and I believe this is exactly what the author is doing. When Christians speak to others regarding the word it should always be out of love NEVER HATE.

But, the problem is as I stated in my earlier comment, people DO NOT LIKE TO BE TOLD when they’re wrong or what to do. And with the collapse of moral values in the US and world Christians must be diligent regarding the teachings of Jesus. It’s not forcing it down your throat, it’s letting people know what Jesus & God says regarding this specific topic he has chosen.

I believe this is a very informative and thoughtful post. Many, many blessings to you all…Robin

  5. ”Gay is Okay…” – NOT. This is another message for the faithful, in that consenting, or accepting that homosexuality is ok ‘as long as it doesn’t affect me’ thinking is absolutely incorrect. The message is clear:

    Romans 1:32

32 “Who, having known the justice of God, did not understand that they who do such things, are worthy of death; and not only they that do them, but they also that consent to them that do them.”

Those that consent that they do them, are also worthy of death – so if you are ok with homosexuality, you are NOT ok with God.

  6. I am a married woman and I believe that homosexuality is wrong just as fornication or affairs after marriage is wrong. I don’t understand why people (media mainly) place such emphasis on homosexuality when all of it is wrong. It is wrong because we are going against God’s wishes. As a heterosexual woman, I lust after men but, I must suppress my selfish desires and control my urges because I am married and because it is wrong to fornicate. God said not to do these things. How is this different from a man lusting after another man? It is all about controlling your selfish desires and following God’s order of things. If you are a true Christian, it is all about loving your Lord with all your heart. If that is so, how can you go against him? How can you condemn someone for doing one sin while you yourself have similar sin too? I don’t like it when people try to elevate the sin of homosexuality as if it is special sin. Sin is sin period! We all have them in the form of lying, hating, gossiping, judging, etc. I don’t believe that there is degree of sin that says one sin is worse than another. Isn’t that why Jesus had to die for us? I agree, I feel so sad for those who are in bondage and do not know that salvation is at their fingertips for the asking. I pray that everyone who reads this blog thinks for himself/herself and examine Who God is and why so many people have been so passionate for many years. God is real – test Him – ask Him to show you this Easter. May God bless you abundantly.

    1. There are different degrees of sin. Remember there is “sin leading to death.”

If anyone sees his brother sinning a sin which does not lead to death, he will ask, and He will give him life for those who commit sin not leading to death. There is sin leading to death. I do not say that he should pray about that.
      1 John 5:15-17

Yes, it’s ALL sin. I am not “judging” anyone. I am simply telling what God’s word says.

    2. It’s being discussed so fervently right now because of the ‘gay marriage’ debate going on around the country. Marriage is a Sacrament of the Church, and allowing homosexual couples to be married is a blaspheme to the Sacrament. It’s that simple.

  7. I agree regarding sin, however, Jesus did tell us there is one sin we would not be forgiven for and that is blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. Sue Ann isn’t trying to put homosexuality above any other sins, at least I don’t believe this is what she’s trying to do. I believe since homosexuality is constantly being fought for within our government that she is saying it’s wrong according to the Bible and we shouldn’t go against what the Bible teaches. And let me just say, when someone says it’s wrong it doesn’t mean they are Judging! It means, they are QUOTING the Bible. We must be willing to call sin what it truly is….SIN! This is what the Bible teaches. If the Bible says it’s wrong, it’s wrong!

Why do you think Jesus taught narrow is the Gate? Because few will enter. If man does NOT adhere to the teachings of Christ, they will not enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Plain and Simple! Read the Beatitudes. Jesus tells us the type of individuals that he seeks. And God tells us in Isaiah when he spoke of the New Covenant that he would write his laws upon our hearts and minds.

And I’m sorry Claire but I totally disagree with your thoughts. The New Testament is very easy to read and interpret. And the only interpreter we need is the Holy Spirit which is given to us. Man is fallible, the Holy Spirit is not. Man is subject to sin, the Holy Spirit is not. Just my thoughts….many, many blessings to all of you..Robin

  8. Same sex marriage makes no difference to people’s sexuality or sexual expression, there will still be gay relationships even if there is no gay marriage. But, by God, there ought to be! Religious people do not own marriage, unless you live in a theocracy (and a theocracy is people twisting their idea of what they think God thinks so that they can impose it on people, especially those they have a problem with, like women and Jewish people, so beware of it!). There is nothing special about being straight, no divine privilege. If straight people can marry then so can gay people and religious people should show love by letting them getting on with it and keeping their noses out. What is the straight fascination with homosexuality all about anyway?

  9. Please understand, God & Jesus loves everyone. And as Christians we are to do the same. Christians who truly follow Biblical teaching know we must speak out against sin not because we’re finger pointing but because we are concerned where a person will spend eternity. It’s the love which we have for others given to us by Christ and God Almighty. The Bible teaches this.

Throughout my study of the Bible I believe we are all tempted in different ways by Satan. But it’s up to us to learn how to fight against that temptation. As an example, some one has a drug addiction. Morally and biblically it’s wrong. And until this person is given the RIGHT TOOLS to help them OVERCOME this addiction they will continue to fall back into old habits of drug abuse. But they can overcome it. The same is with homosexuality, it can be overcome. But it takes the right tools, the right mindset! The only way is through the love of Jesus Christ and committing one’s life to him and NOT to this World. Homosexuality along with lying, stealing, murder, adultery, idolatry are all worldly sins. But as I stated, ALL CAN OVERCOME them.

But it takes switching our thoughts away from this world to God, it takes dedicating ones life to Christ and neglecting the world, it takes prayer, especially, when the temptation hits you. And I’m not talking about prayer as hey God I’m feeling weak….I’m talking about falling on your knees, humbling yourself before God and telling him what’s in your heart type of prayer. Admitting to God your weak and you need his help to get you through, and it takes studying the scriptures, learning scriptures so you can say the scriptures when temptation hits, and it takes learning about Christ’s love for you and the price he paid to cleanse us of our past sins. This plan isn’t strictly for homosexuality, it’s for all sin! How do I know? Because we all sin, but, Christ teaches we can overcome it.

But the problem is the WORLD doesn’t want to hear this. People of this world do not want to hear when they’re wrong. They do not want any accountability for their thoughts or their actions. And as much as God & Jesus loves each and everyone of us, they do not love OUR SIN.

I thank SueAnn for her ability to post such a topic and maintain a strictly biblical context. Many, many blessings to you all and have a wonderful Passover…..Robin

    1. We need to speak out about our own sin and sin which hurts others. Worrying about other people’s sexuality (not a sin) doesn’t fall into these. It’s hard (impossible) to take condemning of homosexuality seriously (at best) when Christians never give equal air time to all the other sins they are, or ought to be, concerned about. If that ever happened people might just be prepared to listen, otherwise they have plenty of cause for thinking that Christians have a big downer on gays.

If they did, they would see it’s NOT ALL ABOUT HOMOSEXUALITY….

My point I am trying to make is that forever is a long time. I would like to see you and others make the right choices so that you spend FOREVER in a nice, loving place.
I battle sin in my own life everyday. I am in NO WAY better than anyone else. I hope I did not come across that I am.
The Bible teaches very specifically that certain sins, when they become lifestyles, such as telling lies, will keep people out of Heaven and send them to Hell. There are no Liars in Heaven.

  10. Granted, but homosexuality looms large in these discussions. If all ‘sins’ had equal air time we would spend very little time talking about homosexuality, if we then factored in how many people are gay, then the impact of their gayness on others (almost none I should think), then it would be surprising if we talked about it at all!

    1. The Bible tells us that people who love and practice a lie will not be in Heaven. This is according to Revelation 22:15. “Outside are dogs, those who practice magic arts (Harry Potter), the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idolaters and everyone who loves and practices falsehood.” If you tell a lie, and repent, and ask forgiveness, and move on, that is one thing. To life in a constant state of lying, or practicing falsehood is something else. That would be for example, someone who lies to his boss everyday, that it’s part of his lifestyle.

“How can a man be born when he is Old?” Nicodemus asked. “Surely he cannot enter a second time into his mother’s womb to be born.”

Jesus answered “I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit. Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. You should not be surprised by my saying, “You must be born again.” The wind blows where it pleases. You hear its sound but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going.
