What about the Fortress that is already built in my head?

moat

While reviewing the Full Armor of God, and the weapons of our warfare, I came across other scriptures that refer to fortresses–also known as strongholds.

I know that the shield of faith “quenches all the fiery darts of the enemy.” But I always thought of it in present tense. Meaning I now have weapons to fight against the wrong thoughts coming at me on a daily basis.

But what about the old stuff, the wrong thoughts that were put in my brain years ago; lies that I still believe? Those are strongholds, or fortresses in my head. For some reason, I just accepted it as “the way things are.” I can go forward, but there are some things I can’t get past, or so I believed.

I started finding scriptures that gave me hope, that the old fortresses can come down too.

2 Corinthians 10:4 is a good example:

The weapons of our warfare are not physical, but they are mighty before God for the overthrow and destruction of strongholds.

Here’s another translation:

For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but divinely powerful for the destruction of fortresses.

So although I have fortresses in my mind, God’s weapons are stronger.

This is just the first baby-step for me. It’s scary and confusing. It’s a deeper revelation for me of ideas that I thought I understood, but now I see there is so much more.

I’ll be working on correcting the fortress issue!

    1. I needed to hear this. I need to forgive someone and I don’t want to right now. My head is filled with rationalizing why I am justified. I guess I better let it go even if I don’t want to.

  1. I never looked at this point about the shield this way. I think the blood of Jesus is really the only way to cover all of our thoughts that’ are not from God or thoughts that are not true yet we let them live in our minds.
