We expect our prayers to be answered a certain way and we are upset when they are answered differently.

Let’s take a look at John the Baptist. (This was not directly answer to prayer so much as an answer to a question.)

For Herod himself had sent and laid hold of John, and bound him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife; for he had married her. — Mark 6:17

John the Baptist, who was Jesus’ cousin, was in prison because he said things the Herod did not like. John sent some of his guys to ask Jesus, are you the one, or is there another?

Jesus sent back word that “the blind see, the deaf hear. And blessed is he who is not offended because of me.”

Jesus,  you’re running around doing all these miracles, but I’m still in this prison? Why don’t you bust me out? Or is someone else going to come along for that?

Jesus did not bust John the Baptist out of jail. In fact, John was beheaded for his faith.

Sometimes our prayers don’t get answered the way we think they should.
