Have you read the book of Enoch?

We know that Enoch walked with God, and he was no more for God took him. Genesis 5:24 and Hebrews 11:5. 

*revised:  Enoch was seven generations from Adam.  

Enoch was also Noah’s great-grandfather.  

I’ve always been curious to read the book of Enoch, first to determine for myself if it is actually true and if it lines up with other scriptures, and secondly, if it does, what kinds of wisdom can we humans glean from it?

I found a free app today and downloaded it.  I started reading, but since it has over 100 chapters, it will take me a while.  

Have you ever read it? What do you think of it?

  1. I’m reading it for the last 2 years now, Sue Ann. I think I am now in the last book (4 of them?) which is really slowing me down because it’s talking about the number of days in a month and seasons, etc. etc. At the beginning I was reading fast–I thought there were lots of parallels with Revelation, and things about fallen angels teaching humans to destroy the earth by “mining” (my wording), and introducing the use of cosmetics and jewelry (from the same mined minerals). My question is–the Enoch we can so easily download now–is it the same book of Enoch that Jesus mentioned? Regardless, I’m reading it because it’s, well… literature!

    1. Hi munying, thank you for replying. I don’t know if Jesus mentioned the book of Enoch, i was unable to find a reference. Can you tell me the scripture? AlsoEnoch is mentioned in Luke 3:37, Hebrews 11:5, and Jude 1:14. I always found it strange that Enoch walked with God and was translated, did not die a natural death, yet there is so little in the bible about him!! Surely we would want more info about how he walked so close with God! I just started reading it and so far it does line up with scripture. I downloaded “The Book of Enoch” app from the app store for free.

      1. Hi Sue Ann–apologies, I stand corrected. Yes, you are right, Jesus did not mention the book of Enoch. I read someone’s post before (which I just checked again now) which mentioned that Jesus “referenced” Enoch. Very interesting–you might want to check it–it’s written by a lovely lady, at lambsservant dot wordpress dot com. Just type “Enoch” at the search box (the title of the post is “Jude quoted it – why don’t we read it?”).

        I think I did some “googling” before and that’s from where I read that the book we have now may not be the original one. I wouldn’t know, but I’m reading the book anyway (got it in my e-reader as a free download as well). So far I have not come across a passage [yet] that goes against Scripture.

          1. I’d be interested to hear what you think of it, SueAnn when you finish [or while] reading the book. Perhaps you could write more posts about it 🙂 I’m also determined to finish reading the book.

          5. I just checked it, SueAnn–in my version that is Book 1 chap7 v22. Sounds to me like the passage in Revelation when the martyrs were asking God when they will be avenged.

            I have made some progress and am now in Book 5–you’ve encouraged me to pick it up again!

          7. Mine has got 5 books, with each book containing between 3-7 chapters (a chapter could have more than 100 verses though). I got mine from Amazon–free download for Kindle. Now I’m wondering if my copy is complete!
