The evolution of job hunting

Hi all,

It’s been a crazy few weeks. I started out looking for a job last month. I accidentally applied to one in France 😳. The process is so different than when I first got out of college.

Back then, you typed your resume on a typewriter, praying that your fingers didn’t slip and you would have to make changes with white-out.

I did cheat though, as I worked part time at a bank with an excellent copy machine, and you could not tell originals from copies with the naked eye.

From there we graduated to dot matrix printers which actually made printouts look like crap, but it was acceptable because it was so high tech at the time.

There was also the good quality resume paper with matching envelopes which was actually quite pricey, and if you’re unemployed, this has to be purchased with a charge card.

We then graduated to email resume sending. Cover letter email message with attached word document resume was the way to go.

Now. We upload our resume to a job site app such as monster or career builder. We just click on a job we want to apply for. Cover letters are not necessary for many positions.

The problem with this of course is that we still have occasional finger spazzes. On the phone app, the space between the read more button is too close to the apply now button. Whoops.

I am sure I have applied to more jobs than I intended.

I have not found the right match yet, but hopefully I will soon.
