He Is Risen
16 Now when the Sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices, that they might come and anoint Him. 2 Very early in the morning, on the first day of the week, they came to the tomb when the sun had risen. 3 And they said among themselves, “Who will roll away the stone from the door of the tomb for us?” 4 But when they looked up, they saw that the stone had been rolled away—for it was very large. 5 And entering the tomb, they saw a young man clothed in a long white robe sitting on the right side; and they were alarmed.
The women brought spices to Jesus’ grave to anoint His body, as was the custom of the time. [He had been killed and buried quickly because of the Sabbath, and no work was to be performed on the Sabbath.]
The stone was rolled away from the entrance to Jesus’ tomb. When they looked inside, Jesus was not there. An angel informed them that Jesus had risen from the dead and was no longer in the tomb.
Going back to the Old Testament:
Joshua 5:9 tells us:
9 Then the Lord said to Joshua, “This day I have rolled away the reproach of Egypt from you.” Therefore the name of the place is called Gilgal[a] to this day.
The reproach of Egypt was rolled away. This is the only time I find this term in old testament.
Reproach, according to Strongs Concordance, H2781, is disgrace, rebuke, shame.
The reproach of Egypt was slavery. The mistreatment, the shame was ROLLED AWAY.
