As we watch TV we are bombarded with everyone else’s ideas:
What car to buy, what shoes to buy, which credit card to charge, which beer to drink, which TV shows to watch (when the current show is over), what is beautiful, what is ugly, what is right, what is wrong.
My husband and I recently agreed to cancel the cable. I had found myself up at 2 am watching hours of “Storage Wars,” and I thought to myself, “What am I doing with my LIFE?”
There are books I need to read, prayers I need to pray, cleaning to be done, friends and family to call, letters to write.
The TV news tells us, “Be afraid, there are wars and rumors of wars.”
God‘s word tells us, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart,” and “Don’t be afraid, for I am with you always.”
As we continue forward in time, I need to concentrate on what the Lord is saying, not what the news media/entertainment industry is saying.
“With God all things are possible.” Mark 10:27
6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Philipians 4: 6-8
If we bring our prayer requests to God, and keep our heart and mind fixed on Him, we will have the peace of God which surpasses all understanding. While the world is going crazy around us, we are supposed to have peace in the storm. I am still working on this one!!!
I sometimes stop and think that we are actually citizens of Heaven. (Philipians 3:20) We are sent to earth on a mission, which is to honor God, and to be his ambassadors. (2 Corinthians 5:19) As a person is an ambassador from one country to another, we are to be ambassadors from Heaven to Earth.
This means our spirit inside is to be the one in control, not our flesh or “carnal mind” (Literally “meathead”.)
So my choice I need to make every day is to listen to God or listen to the world.
Jesus said to pick up the cross DAILY and follow Him. (Luke 9:23)
I need to make that choice again every day.
