I watched several videos of Black Friday madness, where people hurt other people to get to the sale items. They would walk on top of another human to save $30 on a cell phone!
This has been getting worse every year it seems, and now the sales even start ON Thanksgiving Day! People are camped out in front of Best Buy for days ahead of time to save a few bucks on electronics. And worst of all, most of the people are paying with credit cards! They can’t even afford the crap they are buying.
Instead of spending the day with family and friends, and thanking God for his blessings, this so-called holiday has turned into a Greedy Free-For-All.
I came across this scripture today which helps sum it up:
19 Then the cares and anxieties of the world and distractions of the age, and the pleasure and delight and false glamour and deceitfulness of riches, and the craving and passionate desire for other things creep in and choke and suffocate the Word, and it becomes fruitless. Mark 4:19
Shouldn’t the holiday be more like this:
“As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving.” Colossians 2:6-7
