Jesus did more than this for me.

For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.  –Hebrews 12:3

There are times we are in terrible pain, and there is no painkiller. These are the times where I tell myself, “Jesus did more than this for me.”

I think of a trip to the dentist. He digs into the soft tissue of the gums, jabs into the nerves of my teeth. As my one friend puts it, “You could peel me off the ceiling.” The pain is so great I don’t know if I can bear it. But I tell myself, “Jesus did more than this for me.” It’s a down-to-earth “fellowship of His sufferings.” As we bring Jesus into the pain with us, and remember what He did to save us, we experience a little piece of His fellowship of suffering.
