An ode to Mr. Strong #thursdaythoughts

Preamble:

Forgive my rhyme and meter
For it has been so long
Since I have been in college;
I hope that it’s not wrong.

***

It must have taken decades

for James Strong to find the words

to help our understanding

and tell us what we heard

to research Greek and Hebrew

and some Aramaic too

and understand the Bible

that God gave to me and you.

Hours reading ancient texts

and double checking facts

cross referencing the scriptures

being his own book of Acts.

For ’tis a miracle truly

to understand God’s word

and the underlying meaning

to save us from this world.

He had no new computer

to help him on his quest

but only pen and paper

so we could enter into Rest.

So thank you Mr. Strong

for all the work you’ve done

so I can understand the scriptures

and get to know God’s Son.

James Strong (August 14, 1822 – August 7, 1894) was an American Methodist biblical scholar and educator, and the creator of Strong’s Concordance.  (Wikipedia)
