Do you put your lamp under your bed?

I didn’t think so. The reason for the lamp is to shine light on what is in the room and to see what you are doing.

Isn’t that a cool looking lamp?!  [It’s available on Amazon.]

Light shines brightest when the surrounding area is dark. Think of fireworks. No one displays fireworks in the day time; there is no purpose to that.

We enjoy watching sunsets. As the sun ends the day, and the night with its darkness comes, we appreciate the colors the sunset displays. The sunset is not about the darkness, it’s about the light.

Light Under a Basket

21 Also He said to them, “Is a lamp brought to be put under a basket or under a bed? Is it not to be set on a lampstand? 22 For there is nothing hidden which will not be revealed, nor has anything been kept secret but that it should come to light. 23 If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear.”  Mark 4:21-23

We seldom put lamps on lampstands, but usually on a desk or table. We also have lights in our ceilings since the invention of electricity. Sometimes there are lights on floors, so mark a pathway in the dark, like in movie theatres and airplanes.

14 “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house.” –Matthew 5:14-15

But you, brethren, are not in darkness, so that this Day should overtake you as a thief. You are all sons of light and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of darkness. Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be [a]sober.  — 1 Thessalonians 5:4-6

But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; 10 who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy.  –1 Peter 2:8-10

A few scriptures to ponder. We have been called out of the darkness and into the light. We all have a light to shine.
