It was certainly a tragedy when children were killed at the Sandy Hook school.
It was determined that Adam Lanza did not legally own guns.
It was also determined that he was mentally ill.
Criminals do not obey gun laws.
Heroin and cocaine are illegal, yet these drugs are found on the streets of American every day.
Making the ownership of guns illegal will not stop the violence, all it will do is disarm the honest citizens who possess guns for the protection of their families.
Making gun ownership illegal will do nothing to stop criminals from shooting innocent victims; it will only make the victims more plentiful for criminals to prey on.
The right to keep and bear arms should not be infringed.
“When guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns.”
We need to acknowledge God in our lives, we need to pray for this country, we need to help those who are mentally ill.
Taking guns away from citizens is not the solution.
I once watched a movie where only the military and police owned guns: It was called Schindler’s List.

It’s difficult. Here in the UK the police don’t carry guns on a day to day basis. Ordinary folk don’t have guns. Not having a gun sometimes means innocent people die at the hands of those who are armed. Having a gun has meant innocent people have died too. I don’t think it makes any difference whether you have a gun or not. I don’t think guns are protection.
I agree with you that the underlying causes need to be addressed. Ironically, we spend more money on weapons (as nations) than on ways of helping those who are for whatever reason are or become alienated from society. Love is the rational answer to everything. Easy to say, not easy to live by. (I include myself)!

I guess I left out the background information that I should have included. I live in Upstate NY. I have no problem with a discussion on guns. What irks me is that the Senate passed gun legislation in the middle of the night, without discussion, without enough time for the Senators to read the bills. THAT is not supposed to happen in a Constituional Republic. (Yes, I know we are no longer a Republic…but that’s another story…) Why in the middle of the NIGHT? Because their deeds are evil. Stealing in the middle of the night like a thief.

Thanks! I’m surprised however that it’s possible to pass legislation without the votes of those empowered by the people to govern for them. But then, I know very little about how governing works in the US.

I have to get a license to drive my car and I have to take a test also to prove that I know how to drive and that I know what the laws are and I must have insurance to protect myself and others and I must wear my seat belt and I can’t drink or do drugs while I drive and I must register my vehicle and I can’t buy a car with a cannon on it or a machine gun turret or any other military weaponry and I must obey traffic laws and we all still have cars and we are all still free.
