I wrote this a few years ago in response to some Jehovah Witnesses who had showed up at my door. I thought it would be helpful to have all this information in one place.

JESUS IS GOD.

John 1:1-5

The Word Became Flesh

 1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.2He was with God in the beginning.

3Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of men. 5The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood[a] it.

For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.

1 John 5:7

Jesus is ‘I am’.

Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am. John 8:58

[This use of “I AM” is one of the names of God. He who was, is, and will be.] 

 

Jesus forgives sins.

Who can forgive sins but God only? Mark 2:7

Jesus said “Son, your sins are forgiven.” Mark 2:5

 

 

Matthew 9:4-6 (New International Version)

 4Knowing their thoughts, Jesus said, “Why do you entertain evil thoughts in your hearts?5Which is easier: to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up and walk’? 6But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins….” Then he said to the paralytic, “Get up, take your mat and go home.”

 

John 4:22-24 (New International Version)

22You Samaritans worship what you do not know; we worship what we do know, for salvation is from the Jews. 23Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. 24God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth.”

22Moreover, the Father judges no one, but has entrusted all judgment to the Son,

God was manifested in the flesh,       Justified in the Spirit, Seen by angels, Preached among the Gentiles,  Believed on in the world,  Received up in glory.

 

Philippians 2:8-11 (New International Version)

8And being found in appearance as a man,       he humbled himself       and became obedient to death—          even death on a cross!  9Therefore God exalted him to the highest place       and gave him the name that is above every name,  10that at the name ofJesus every knee should bow,       in heaven and on earth and under the earth,  11andevery tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord,       to the glory of God the Father.

 

Acts 4:10-12 (New International Version)

10then know this, you and all the people of Israel: It is by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified but whom God raised from the dead, that this man stands before you healed. 11He is    ” ‘the stone you builders rejected,       which has become the capstone.[a]'[b] 12Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.”

 There is no other way to get to heaven. You cannot earn your way into Heaven. It is only by believing on Jesus, and His blood sacrifice at the cross for us that we can enter Heaven. 

 

John 20:26-29 (New International Version)

 26A week later his disciples were in the house again, and Thomas was with them. Though the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!”27Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.”

28Thomas said to him, “My Lord and my God!”

29Then Jesus told him, “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”

 

John 14:8-9 (New International Version)

 8Philip said, “Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us.”

9Jesus answered: “Don’t you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?

 

 

Acts 7:59-60 (New King James Version)

59 And they stoned Stephen as he was calling on God and saying, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.” 60 Then he knelt down and cried out with a loud voice, “Lord, do not charge them with this sin.” And when he had said this, he fell asleep.

 

There are of course many other scriptures. I wanted to put some basic scriptures together in one document to keep it handy to explain the foundational principles.
