Is it God’s job, or ours? Do we tell the storm to cease, or does He?

With Irma being the topic of discussion, there is much infighting in the body of Christ as to whose job it is to speak against this storm.  Some say only God has the power to calm the storm, and we should just pray and ask Him to stop it.

Others are rising up, saying that we have authority in Jesus’ name to speak to the storm and command it to stop.

First, if we don’t know whose job it is, we can ask for wisdom:

James 1:5-8 Now if any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives to all generously and without criticizing, and it will be given to him. But let him ask in faith without doubting. For the doubter is like the surging sea, driven and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. An indecisive man is unstable in all his ways.

The doubt itself is like a storm!!

Mark 16:15-18 Then Jesus said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to the whole creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will accompany those who believe: In My name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new languages; they will pick up snakes; if they should drink anything deadly, it will never harm them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will get well.”

John 14:12 “I assure you: The one who believes in Me will also do the works that I do. And he will do even greater works than these, because I am going to the Father. ”

I say, if you think only God can stop it, then pray directly to God and ask Him to stop it.  If you believe Jesus gave us authority over evil, and you feel comfortable rebuking the storm yourself, go for it.

Let’s not fight, or make fun of your brothers and sisters in the other side of the fence!   Let’s stand in unity.    They are NOT the enemy, the storm is!!!

Psalm 133:1 How good and pleasant it is when brothers live together in harmony!
