The Bible has a lot to say about deception.
James 1:22 (ESV) says, “But be doers of the Word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.”
We like to think because we can memorize and recite scripture that we are great Christians. But if we are not putting the words into action by helping other people, we are lying to ourselves.
James 1:26 says, “If anyone thinks he is religious and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, this person’s religion is useless.” We’re all working on that one, aren’t we?!
James 1:27 says, “Religion, pure and undefiled, before our God and Father is this, to care for orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself spotless from the world.”
“Doing the word” can start with helping widows and orphans, donating TIME, money, clothing and food.
Jesus tells us in Matthew 24:24:
24 For false christs and false prophets will rise and show great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect. 25 See, I have told you beforehand.
Let’s be real, we all read that and like to think “I would never be deceived!” But why would Jesus waste words? He doesn’t. He’s telling us to stay alert.
Hopefully more on this topic soon, such as why people can’t see the truth right in front of them!
