My new necklace

My new necklace has a small mustard seed inside a heart.

I used to wear a cross to work, but I wanted something that would be different, and spark a conversation.

Jesus told a parable about mustard seeds:

The Parable of the Mustard Seed

30 Then He said, “To what shall we liken the kingdom of God? Or with what parable shall we picture it? 31 It is like a mustard seed which, when it is sown on the ground, is smaller than all the seeds on earth; 32 but when it is sown, it grows up and becomes greater than all herbs, and shoots out large branches, so that the birds of the air may nest under its shade.”

Mark 4:30-32 NKJV

Mustard seeds are tiny. They start small, but when they are sown into the ground, they produce huge trees.

There is another interesting bit of scripture about mustard seeds:

So Jesus said to them, “Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.

Matthew 17:20 NKJV

And where is a place that you could send a mountain, if you have enough faith?

The Lesson of the Withered Fig Tree

20 Now in the morning, as they passed by, they saw the fig tree dried up from the roots. 21 And Peter, remembering, said to Him, “Rabbi, look! The fig tree which You cursed has withered away.”

22 So Jesus answered and said to them, “Have faith in God. 23 For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says. 24 Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.

Mark 11:20-24 NKJV

We can cast mountains into the sea?! Is this a figure of speech, or a picture of some serious faith? Does it mean a literal mountain, or is it symbolism for a huge problem?

I once noted that I had a huge mountain in my life (problem) but instead of the mountain “moving” I received a bigger mountain (problem) into my life, and it made the first mountain look tiny. Perspective!

Psalm 46 is interesting:

46 God is our refuge and strength,
A[a] very present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear,
Even though the earth be removed,
And though the mountains be carried into the [b]midst of the sea;

Psalm 46: 1-2 NKJV

God is our very present help when we are in trouble. We should not fear if the mountains are carried into the midst of the sea because we are the ones who are to be speaking to the mountains and telling them to be cast into the sea.

So I would like to end this post with a song:
