Daily Prompt: What was your favorite book as a child? Did it influence the person you are now?
The book that brings back the best memories for me is Twas the Night Before Christmas. My father read this book to us with his own twist.
For example:
When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.
Away to the window I flew like a flash,
Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.
Would be read: “threw up ON the sash.”
No matter how many times he read it, we always laughed at that. Puke is funny to kids, as long as you’re not the one puking.
He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
And filled all the stockings, then turned with a jerk.
Borrowing from Groucho, my father would insert: “Where he got a jerk from, I’ll never know.”

As for influence on my as an adult…I guess it reminds me to LAUGH and stop being so serious. I’m working on it!
